b) -3/4, -1/3, -3/12
4. Write the additive inverse of the following rational numbers:
a) -3/5
b) 4/7
5. Reduce to standard form:
a) 36/-48
b) -30/45
6. Which of the following are negative rational numbers?
-3/7, -5/-11, 0, 7/9, 6/-5
7.Write four equivalent rational numbers of the following rational numbers:
a) -3/2
b) -2/7
8. The product of two numbers is 3/7. If one number is -1/7, find the second number.
9. Find -2/5 x -3/8.
10.Find
a) 7/9 – 2/5
b) -13/7 + 6/7
ANSWERS:
1. -2 is same as -8/4 and 0 is same as 0/4.
So the rational numbers between -2 and 0 are -7/4, -6/4, -5/4, -4/4.
2. a) Equivalent rational numbers of 2/3 are 4/6, 6/9, 8/12, 10/15…………….
Equivalent rational numbers of ¾ are 6/8, 9/12, 12/16…………………
Since 8/12 < 9/12, 2/3 <¾.
b. Since positive integer is always greater than the negative integer,
4/3 > -4/5.
3. a. -6/7, -5/7, -4/7
b. First write the equivalent rational numbers of the given numbers.
-3/4 = -9/12
-1/3 = -4/12
-3/12 = -3/12
Ascending order are -9/12, -4/12, -3/12.
4. a. 3/5
b. -4/7
5. a. 36/-48 = -3/4 (12 is a common factor)
b. -30/45 = -2/3 (15 is a common factor)
6. Negative rational numbers are -3/7 and 6/-5.
7. a. -3/2 = -6/4 = -9/6 = -12/8 = -15/10……….
b. -2/7 = -4/14 = -6/21 = -8/28 = -10/35…….
8. Product of two numbers = 3/7
One number = -1/7
Second number = -3
9. -2/5 x -3/8 = 6/40 = 3/20
10.a. 7/9 – 2/5 = (35 – 18)/45 = 17/45.
b. -13/7 + 6/7 = (-13 + 6)/7 = -7/7 = -1.
