Coordinate Geometry – Chapter 3 / Sample Papers.
Answer the following questions:

  1. Write the ordinates of the following:
    (2, 3), (3, -2), (1, 9), (-2, 6)
    Solution:
The ordinates are the y coordinates.
    Therefore, 3, -2, 9 and 6 are the ordinates.
  2. In which quadrant do the following points lie?
    (-3, 5), (-2, -4), (2, -5), (5, 4)
    Solution:
(-3, 5) lies in the II quadrant.
(-2, -4) lies in the III quadrant
(2, -5) lies in the IV quadrant
    (5, 4) lies in the I quadrant
  3. Write the answer of each of the following questions:
    a) What is the name of horizontal and the vertical lines drawn to determine the position of any point in the Cartesian plane?
    b) What is the name of each part of the plane formed by these two lines?
    c) Write the name of the point where these two lines intersect.
    Solution:
    a) The x – axis and the y – axis
    b) Quadrants
    c) The origin
  4. Which of the following point (0, 4), (8, 0), (4, 0), (0, 6) lie on
    a) x axis
    b) y axis?
    Solution:
    a) (8, 0) and (4, 0) lie on x axis.
    b) (0, 4) and (0, 6) lie on y axis.
  5. Find the three points on the line y = 2x +1.
    Solution:
    Given y = 2x + 1
    Put x = 0, we get y = 2 x 0 + 1 = 1
    Put x = 1, we get y = 2 x 1 + 1 = 3
    Put x = 2, we get y = 2 x 2 + 1 = 5
    Therefore, the points (0, 1), (1, 3) and (2, 5) lies on the line y = 2x + 1.
