9:12 = 3:4 (3 is a common factor)
So these are in proportion.
b) 5:10 = 1:2 (5 is a common factor)
So these are not in proportion.

1 km = 1000 meters
a) 500 : 1000 = 1:2 (500 is a common factor)
b) 50 paise: 2 rupees
1 rupees = 100 paise
50: 200 = 1:4 (50 is a common factor)

3. Sum of the parts = 2 +3 = 5
Share of each person = 500 x 2/5 = 1000/5 = 200 rupees
500 x 3/5 = 1500/5 = 300 rupees

Weight of 1 book = 9/63 = 1/7 kg
Weight of 70 books = 70 x 1/7 = 10 kg

7. Sum of the parts = 3 + 4 = 7

Share of each person = 350 x 3/7 = 150 rupees
350 x 4/7 = 200 rupees

8. Present age of father = 40 years

Present age of son = 8
a) Ratio = 40: 8 = 5:1(8 is a common factor)

Ratio = 50:18 = 25:9 (2 is a common factor)

9. Rainfall in 5 days = 265 mm

Rainfall in 1 day = 265 /5 = 53 mm
Rainfall in 1 week = 53 x 7 = 371 mm

10. Cost of 5 kg of rice = 160 rupees

Cost of 1 kg of rice = 160/5 = 32 rupees
