Simple Equations/Chapter 4/ CBSE Class 7 Mathematics Extra Questions
1. Write the following statements in the form of equations:
a) The sum of twice a number y and 4 gives 8.
b) One-fourth of a number x minus 6 gives 10.
c) 7 is subtracted from thrice a number z is 20.
2. Convert the following equations in statement form:
a) 7a = 70
b) ½ x – 8 = 2
c) 3x + 2 = 5
3. If 3 is added to twice a number y, the result is 15. Find the number?
4. Solve
a) 2x – 3 = 9
b) 5x = 20
c) x + 7 = 10
5. Solve 2(x – 3) + 5 = 7
6. Find the value of y for which the expressions (y + 4) and 2y- 3 are equal.
7. If k + 3 = 7, find the value of 2k – 3?
8. Two subtracted form 7 times a number gives 12. Find the number?
9. Sonu is 4 years older than 3 times Manu’s age. If Sonu’s age is 31, find Manu’s age?
10. The sum of two numbers is 48. One number is twice the other. Find the numbers?
Solution:
1. a) 2y + 4 = 8
b) ¼ x – 6 = 10
c) 3z – 7 = 20
2. a) Seven times a number a gives 70.
b) Subtract 8 from half of a number x gives 2.
c) Two is added to thrice a number x gives 5.
3. Equation is 3 + 2y = 15
2y = 15 – 3 = 12
y = 12/2 = 6
4. a) 2x – 3 = 9
2x = 9 + 3 = 12
x = 12/2 = 6
b) 5x = 20
x = 20/5 = 4
c)x + 7 = 10
x = 10 – 7 = 3
5. 2(x – 3) + 5 = 7
2(x – 3) = 7 – 5 = 2
x – 3 = 2/2 = 1
x = 1 + 3 = 4
6. Given y + 4 = 2y – 3
y – 2y = -3 – 4
-y = -7
y = 7
7. Given equation is k + 3 = 7
k = 7 – 3 = 4
The value of 2k – 3 = 2 x 4 – 3 = 8 – 3 = 5
8. Let the number be y.
Equation is 7y – 2 = 12
7y = 12 + 2 = 14
y = 14/7 = 2
9. Let Manu’s age be p.
Given 3p + 4 = 31
3p = 31 – 4 = 27
p = 27/3 = 9 years
10. Let one number be y, and then the other number will be 2y.
Given y + 2y = 48
3y = 48
y = 48/3 = 16
