Answer the following:

1. Find the ratio of the following:
a) 50 paise to Rs 2.
b) 30 minutes to 1.5 hours.

2. There are 75 teachers in a school of 1500 students. Find the ratio of the number of teachers to the number of students.

3. Length and breadth of a rectangular field are 50m and 20 m respectively. Find the ratio of the length to the breadth of the field.

4. There are 60 persons working in an office. If the number of females is 25 and the remaining are males, find the ratio of

a) The number of females to the number of males.
b) The number of males to number of females.

5. Divide Rs 250 in the ratio 3:2 between Anu and Manu.

6. Present age of father is 50 years and that of his son is 15 years. Find the ratio of

a) Present age of father to the present age of son.
b) Age of father after 5 years to the age of son after 5 years.

7. Are 30, 40, 45 and 60 in proportion?

8. If the cost of one dozen pens is Rs 72, then what will be the cost of 4 pens?

9. Aju purchases 10 notebooks for Rs 250 and Anu buys 6 notebooks for Rs 132. Can you say who got the notebooks cheaper?

10. If the cost of 5 soaps is Rs 155, then what will be the cost of 12 such soaps?

ANSWERS:
1. a) 50:200 = 1:4
(Divide both numerator and denominator by 50)
b) 30: 90 = 1:3
(Divide both numerator and denominator by 30)

2. The ratio of the number of teachers to the number of students = 75:1500

Divide both numerator and denominator by 75.
So we will get 75:1500 = 1:20

3. The ratio of the length to the breadth = 50:20

Here 10 is a common factor. So we can divide both numerator and denominator by 10.
Therefore, 50:20 = 5:2

4. Total number of persons = 60

Number of females = 25
Number of males = 60 -25 = 35

a) The ratio of number of females to males = 25:35 = 5:7
(Divide by 5)

b) The ratio of number of males to females = 35:25 = 7:5
(Divide by 5)

5. Anu’s share:

250 x 3/ 5 =Rs 150
Manu’s share:
250 x 2 / 5 =Rs 100

6. Present age of father = 50 years

Present age of son = 15 years

a) The ratio of present age of father to the present age of son = 50: 15
50: 15 = 10: 3 (Divide by 5)

b) Age of father after 5 years = 50 + 5 = 55

Age of son after 5 years = 15 + 5 =20
The ratio of the age of father to the age of son after 5 years = 55:20
55:20 = 11:4 (Divide by 5)

7. Ratio of 30 to 40 = 30:40 = 3:4(Divide by 10)

Ratio of 45 to 60 = 45:60 = 3:4(Divide by 15)
Therefore, 30:40 = 45:60
So 30, 40, 45 and 60 are in proportion.

8. Cost of one dozen pen = 72 rupees

Cost of one pen = 72/12 = 6 rupees
Therefore, cost of 4 pens = 4 x 6 = 24 rupees

9. Aju:

Cost of 10 notebooks = Rs 250
Cost of one notebook = 250/10 = 25 rupees

Anu:

Cost of 6 notebook = 132
Cost of one notebook = 132/6 = 22 rupees
So Anu got the notebooks cheaper.

10. Cost of 5 soaps = Rs 155

Cost of one soap = 155 / 5 = 31 rupees
Cost of 12 soaps = 31 x 12 = 372 rupees.
