ANSWERS:

1. a) 5 rupees = 500 paise
Ratio = 500:50 = 10:1 (50 is a common factor)
b) 9m = 900 cm
27:900 = 3:100 (9 is a common factor)

2. a) 20% = 20/100 = 1/5 (20 is a common factor).
b) 40% = 40/100 = 2/5 (20 is a common factor).

3. Percentage of the students who are absent = 8 x 100/32 = 800/32 = 25%.

4. Percentage that are defective = 5 x 100/ 500 = 500/500 = 1%.

5. Let the number be x.
75% of x = 15
75 x = 15 x 100
75 x = 1500
x = 1500/75 = 20.

6. 25% of 700 rupees = 25 x 700/100 = 25 x 7 = 175 rupees.

7. 40 % of 300 = 40 x 300 /100 = 40 x3 = 120.
60% of 300 = 60 x 300/ 100 = 60 x 3 = 180.

8. a) Sum of the parts = 3 + 2 = 5
3 x 100/ 5 = 3 x 20 = 60%.
2 x 100 / 5 = 2 x 20 = 40%.

b) Sum of the parts = 5 + 3 + 2 = 10
5 x 100/ 10 = 5 x 10 = 50%
3 x 100 / 10 = 3 x 10 =30%
2x 100 / 10 = 2 x 10 = 20%.

9. Cost of 15 notebooks = 450 rupees.
Cost of one notebook = 450 / 15 = 30 rupees.
Cost of 8 notebooks = 30 x 8 = 240 rupees.

10. a) 0.45 = 45/100 = 45%.
b) 0.04 = 4/100 = 4%.
