Lines and Angles – Chapter 5
Fill in the blanks:
- A line segment has ——— end points.
- The complement of 30 degree is ———-
- The supplement of 123 degree is ———
- The angles in a linear pair are ——-
- If two adjacent angles are supplementary, they form a ————
Answer the following: - The difference in the measures of two complementary angles is 12 degree. Find the measures of the angles?
- Among two supplementary angles the measure of the larger angle is 44 degree more than the measure of the smaller. Find their measures
- Find examples for transversal from your surroundings.
- Write two pairs of complementary angles.
- Write two pairs of supplementary angles.
ANSWERS:
- Two
- 60 degree
- 57 degree
- Supplementary
- Linear pair
- Let one angle be x.
Since these two angles are complementary, we can take other angle as 90 – x.
According to the given condition, x – (90 – x) = 12
x – 90 + x = 12
2x – 90 = 12
2x = 90 + 12 = 102
x = 102/2 = 51
So one angle is 51 and other angle is 90 – 51 = 39. - Let smaller angle be x and larger angle be 44 + x.
Since these two angles are supplementary, x + 44+ x = 180
2x + 44 = 180
2x = 180 – 44 = 136
x = 136/2 = 68
So the smaller angle is 68 and larger angle is 44 + 68 = 112 degree - i)A road crossing two or more roads.
ii) A railway line crossing several other lines. - 70, 20 and 45, 45.
- 110, 70 and 90, 90.
