- ‘Sum of the numbers p and 3 is 8’ can be written as ——
- ‘5 is added to twice a number y’ can be written as ———–
- The solution of 3a = 15 is ———–
- If 3 times a number is 27, then the number is ————-
Answer the following: - Find three consecutive numbers whose sum is 33.
- Solve:
a) 2(x – 1) = 8
b) 10 – (y – 5) = 0 - Write the following statements in the form of equations:
a) 9 is subtracted from thrice a number y gives 3.
b) 5 multiplied by a number p give 25 - Convert the following equations in statement form:
a) 3a = 9
b) 2x – 9 = 5 - Solve: 3(p – 2) = (p – 4) – 5
- If 5 is added to twice a number x gives 15. Find the number?
- The sum of three consecutive even numbers is 36. Find the numbers?
- Manu’s father’s age is 3 times Manu’s age. Find Manu’s age if father is 45 year old.
- The perimeter of a rectangle is 24 cm. If the breadth of the rectangle is 5 cm, find its length?
- Solve:
a) 3x + 5 = x – 5
b) 2x = 3(x – 4) + 5
ANSWERS:
- n = 5
- p + 3 = 8
- 5 + 2y
- a = 5
- 9
- Let the three consecutive numbers be y, y+ 1 and y + 2.
Given y + y + 1 + y + 2 = 33
3y + 3 = 33
3y = 33 – 3 = 30
y = 30/3 = 10
Three consecutive numbers are 10, 11 and 12. - a) 2( x – 1) = 8
2x – 2 = 8
2x = 8 + 2 = 10
x = 10/2 = 5
b) 10 – (y – 5) =0
10 – y + 5 = 0
15 – y = 0
y =15 - a) 3y – 9 = 3
b) 5p = 25 - a) Thrice a number a gives 9
b) 9 subtracted from twice a number x gives 5. - 3(p – 2) = (p – 4) – 5
3p – 6 = p – 4 – 5
3p – p = -9 + 6
2p = -3
p = -3/2 - 5 + 2x = 15
2x = 15 – 5 = 10
x = 10/2 = 5 - Let the three consecutive even numbers be x, x+2 and x+ 4.
Given x + x + 2 + x + 4 = 36
3x + 6 = 36
3x = 36 – 6 = 30
x = 30/3 = 10
The consecutive even numbers are 10, 12 and 14. - Let Manu’s age be y.
Given 3y = 45
y = 45/3 = 15 - Perimeter = 24 cm
Breadth = 5 cm
Let length be l.
We know that 2(l + 5) = 24
l + 5 = 24/2 = 12
l = 12 – 5 = 7 cm - a) 3x + 5 = x – 5
3x – x = -5 – 5
2x = -10
x = -10/2 = -5
b) 2x = 3(x – 4) + 5
2x = 3x – 12 + 5
2x – 3x = -7
-x = -7
x = 7
