Answer the following:

  1. The area of a rectangle is 120 square cm. If its length is 20 cm, find its breadth?
    Answer: Given Area = length x breadth= 120 sq cm
    Length = 20 cm (given)
    Breadth = Area/Length = 120/20 = 6 cm
  2. Manu has a rectangular garden of length 42m and width 30m. How much fencing will he need to enclose the garden?
    Answer: Given length = 42m & breadth = 30m
    Perimeter = 2 x (l + b) = 2 x (42 + 30) = 2 x 72 = 144m
  3. Find the cost of fencing a rectangular park of length 150m and breadth 100m at the rate of 25 rupees per metre.
    Answer: Perimeter = 2 x (l + b) = 2 x (150 + 100) = 2 x 250 = 500m
    Cost of fencing = 500 x 25 = 12500 rupees.
  4. A floor is 5m long and 4m wide. A square carpet of side 3m is laid on the floor. Find the area of the floor that is not carpeted?
    Answer: Area of the floor = l x b = 5 x 4 = 20 sq.m
    Area of the square carpet = side x side = 3 x 3 = 9 sq ma
    Area of the floor that is not carpeted = 20 – 9 = 11 sq. m
  5. The area of a rectangular piece of cardboard is 45 sq. cm and its length is 9 cm. What is the width of the card board?
    Answer: Width = Area/length = 45/9 = 5cm
  6. Find the cost of fencing a square park of side 250m at the rate of 20 rupees per metre?
    Answer: Perimeter = 4 x side = 4 x 250 = 1000m
    Cost of fencing = 1000 x 20 = 20000 rupees
  7. Two sides of a triangle are 15cm and 25cm respectively. If perimeter of a triangle is 50cm find the third side?
    Answer: Length of third side = 50 – (15 + 25) = 50 – 40 = 10 cm
  8. Perimeter of a square is 20m. Find its area?
    Answer: Given perimeter = 20m
    Length of each side = 20/4 = 5m
    Area = Side x Side = 5 x 5 = 25 sq. m
  9. What is the length of wooden strip required to frame a photograph of length and breadth 30cm and 25 cm respectively?
    Answer: Perimeter = 2 x (l + b) = 2 x (30 + 25) = 2 x 55 = 110 cm
  10. Find the area of the rectangular playground of length 12m and breadth 8m
    Answer: Area of a rectangle = l x b = 12 x 8 = 96 sq. m
