Terms are a, 2b and 4.
Factors are a, 2, b and 4.
c) 3x – 5y
Terms are 3x and -5y
Factors are 3,x,-5 and y.

2. a) -2x + 7

Terms which are not constants: -2x
Numerical coefficient is -2.
b) 5 + 2ab
Terms which are not constants: 2ab
Numerical coefficient is 2.
c) 2xy + x + 4
Terms which are not constants: 2xy and x
Numerical coefficients are 2 and 1.

3. a) 5 + x + xz

Constant term is 5.
b) 2yz -3z – 9
Constant term is -9.
c) 2 + x + 2y
Constant term is 2.

4. a) 500 and -65 are like terms.

b) 2xy and 2z are unlike terms.
c) –x and 7x are like terms.
d) 2xy and y are unlike terms.

5. a) x – (x-y) – x – (y-x) = x – x + y – x – y + x = 0

b) 2mn – 5mn + 3mn – 4mn + mn = 6mn – 9mn = -3mn
