CLASS 6 MATHEMATICS | MENSURATION – Lesson 10 – Practice problems

Fill in the blanks:

1. Length of the boundary is known as ——————-

2. The amount of surface enclosed by a closed figure is called its ————-

3. The area of a square plot of side 4 m is ————–

4. Area of a square is ——————

5. Area of a rectangle is ————–

6. Find the perimeter of a rectangle whose length and breadth are 250 cm and  1m respectively.

7. Find the perimeter of a regular pentagon with each side measuring 4 cm.

8. The perimeter of a regular hexagon is 24 cm. How long is its one side?

9. Find the side of a square whose perimeter is 36 m.

10. Find the cost of fencing a rectangular park of length 125m and breadth 75m at the rate of 15 per metre.

11. Find the perimeter of a regular hexagon with each side measuring 5m.

12. Two sides of a triangle are 10 cm and 12 cm. The perimeter of the triangle is 30 cm. What is its third side?

13. Find the area of a square of side 12 cm.

14. The area of a rectangular plot 20m long is 160 square metre. Find the width of the plot?

15. The length and breadth of two rectangles are as given below.

a) 5 m and 7m
b) 4 m and 6m

Which one has the largest area and which one has the smallest?

1. Perimeter.

2. Area

3. 16 square metre

4. Side x Side

6. Length = 250 cm

Breadth = 1m = 100 cm

Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 x (length + breadth)
= 2 x (250 + 100)
= 2 x 350
= 700 cm
= 7m

7. Length of each side of a regular pentagon = 4 cm

A five sided figure is known as pentagon.
Therefore, perimeter = 5 x 4 = 20 cm

8. The perimeter of a regular hexagon = 24cm

A six sided polygon is known as hexagon.
Length of one side = 24 divided by 6 = 4 cm.

9. Perimeter of a square = 36 m
Side of the square = 36 divided by 4 = 9 m

10. Length = 125 m
Perimeter = 2 x (length + breadth)
= 2 x (125 + 75)
= 2 x 200
= 400 m
Cost of fencing at the rate of 15 per metre= 400 x 15 = 6000 rupees

11. Length of a regular hexagon = 5m
Perimeter = 5 x 6 = 30m

12. Two sides of a triangle are 10 cm and 12 cm.
Perimeter of a triangle = 30 cm
Length of third side = 30 – (10 + 12) = 30 – 22 = 8 cm

13. Area of a square of side 12 cm = side x side = 12 x 12 = 144 square cm.

14. Length = 20 m
Area = 160 square metre
Width = Area/ length = 160 / 20 = 8 m

15. a) Area = length x breadth = 5 x 7 = 35 square metre
b) Area = 4 x 6 = 24 square metre
5m and 7m has the largest area
4m and 6m has the smallest area.
